OMTI 5000 & 7000 Storage System Replacement
Arraid's OMTI Storage Solution emulates various models in the OMTI 5000 and 7000 series of products made by Scientific Microsystems. These storage systems were used extensively in Process Control as well as Power & Utility applications. OMTI products were available in different combinations of hard disk drive, cartridge tape drive and floppy disk drive. The Arraid OMTI Storage Solution can be configured to emulate any of the popular configurations.
Arraid's OMTI Storage Solution is available in a 19" rack mount enclosure as shown above. The configuration shown includes a removable SCSI disk drive module replacing the hard drive, an MO drive as the new backup device, replacing either tape drive or floppy. Other enclosures are also available covering the full range of configurations.
The Arraid OMTI Storage Solution is based on Arraid's ESP-1 emulation engine. In OMTI emulation, the ESP-1 replaces the OMTI logic managing the interface with a SCSI like controller in the host system. The emulation engine responds to commands and status requests, just like the original OMTI. Modern SCSI devices are used to replace the original MFM disk drive and cartridge tape and/or floppy drive. Some modern compatible media devices are available, allowing where possible, existing OMTI data to be read directly by the emulation engine.
The Arraid OMTI Storage Solution is intended to be fully compatible with existing host operating system and application software. Internal copy capability, part of the standard product, provides for backup and restore at SCSI speeds without operating system overhead. Depending on the configuration selected, the Customer may see significant performance improvements along with the greater reliability of modern logic and SCSI devices.
