Formatted Pertec Tape Drive Emulation with Remote Network Access
The TES-2IP is an extension of the TES-2, stand-alone, reel-to-reel tape drive replacement. The TES-2IP adds ethernet connectivity for remote access to tape files via LAN or WAN. If you haven't already, please review the information on the TES-2.

A TES-2IP shown in a 3U, 19 inch rack mount enclosure. The LCD Operator Panel provides for set up of drive parameters and the network interface, as well as local control of tape functions when required. Data written to "tape" is stored on an internal hard drive.

Files are stored on a SCSI device, who's media takes the place of tape reels. When the computer system and drive are remote, and LAN/WAN access eliminates the need to move physical media, then a fixed internal hard drive may be used as the SCSI device. Where the movement or storage of media with recorded information is still required, then the SCSI device can be either a removable hard drive module or a removable media cartridge disk drive.
The TES-2IP is much more than just a tape drive replacement. Using a Web Browser interface or ftp, an operator at a central location can access the TES-2IP and control the "tape drive". Software in the TES-2IP allows the operator to extract information on the SCSI device from tape image format to disk files, and then transfer those files to a central location via the LAN/WAN.
Bi-directional Backup/Restore is fully supported. Multiple backups can be stored on the system/network disk in the TES-2IP and restored as required. Alternatively, backup images can be uploaded and stored in a central archive. If a Restore is required, the image can be downloaded from archive and restored to the remote host.
The TES-2IP is ideal for use in remote data collection and logging functions. Applications exist in telephony, seismology, meteorology and military ranges.
Features and Benefits
- Easy to install. No hardware or software changes required, other than the drive itself.
- Can replace or be added to existing drives.
- Remote operation of the "tape drive" with file upload capability.
- Recorded data can be accessed without the need to physically collect and transport media.
- LCD Operator Panels provides local control over drive functions when required, as well as over the LAN/WAN interface.
- The TES-IP output can be to 3.5" magneto optical cartridges.
- With tape head alignment no longer an issue, media may be moved from drive to drive without concern for readability.
- MO media is archive quality, impervious to EMI, yielding both reliable media distribution and a 25+ year shelf life.
- High reliability with near zero maintenance required.
- Greater computer system availability with lower cost of ownership.
- Stores the content of multiple 1/2-inch tape reels on a single piece of media.
- Allows for a longer duration between file uploads or exchange of media.
