AEM-5C

Diablo/Pertec, RK-05 Cartridge Disk Drive Emulation

The Arraid AEM-5C system provides a new and warranted equipment replacement for early cartridge disk drives that adhere to the industry standard Diablo / Pertec interface, including the DEC RK05 and RK11 cartridge drives.

The AEM-5C is plug-compatible with the original aging SMD drive, while using ARRAID's proprietary solid state 'ARRAID Flash Drive' (AFD) to store data.  Internal AEM rotating drives (disk, tape & magneto-optic) can still be supported upon request.

No host system software or controller changes are required to install the AEM-5C.

The AEM-5C provides a complete bridge between Diablo, Pertec, DEC RK05, and DEC RK11 controllers allowing them to utilize SCSI drives or ARRAID's proprietary solid state 'ARRAID Flash Drive' (AFD) installed in the AEM-5C.

While refurbished Diablo, Pertec, DEC RK05, and RK11 replacements are available, refurbished drives commonly fail within a few months resulting in system down time. The AEM-5C s provided as new equipment, allowing customers to utilize SCSI drives or ARRAID's proprietary solid state 'ARRAID Flash Drive' (AFD) installed in the AEM-5C with MTBF of 200,000+ hours and significantly more when using the solid state AFD.

Additional AEM-5C options include disk to disk backup, disk to tape backup, AFD network (backup & restore) and mirroring. No refurbished Diablo, Pertec, RK05, or RK11 replacement can match the reliability, features and customer support provided by choosing the AEM-5C to replace your aging cartridge disk drives.

Features

Features and Benefits

  • Sold as new equipment, replacing refurbished Diablo, Pertec, RK05, and RK11 drives with new data storage technology.
  • ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD) option is a Solid State SCSI disk replacing traditional mechanical SCSI drives (DAT, QIC, Tape & Magneto Optical Disk)
  • Additional features such as network backup, mirroring, restore and removable media can be added.
  • The CompactFlash (CF) media in the ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD) is treated exactly the same as the floppy disk media. All drive data is stored on the CF media as if were the original diskette media.
  • AFD network feature option offers LAN network (ethernet-based) back-up and restore capability directly from the AFD using the on board RJ45 Network port. No additional software or register changes are required to the legacy host. Including ARRAIDs FLASH2GUI Software, an optional ethernet support feature for centralised backup and restore capability lessening the reliance to rotate media.  Network option only available on AEM with AFD network drive installed.
  • Additional features such as backup and mirroring can be added.
  • Easy to install. No hardware or software changes required, other than the drive itself.
    • Can replace or be added to existing drives.
  • Operating system, application and diagnostic software are supported as is.
  • An LED or Alpha-Numeric Operator Panel provides the same controls as the original drive.
    • Minimal Operator training required.
  • High reliability with near zero maintenance required.
    • Greater computer system availability with lower cost of ownership.
  • Greatly reduced power consumption compared to the original drive.
  • AEM-5C data is stored to 3.5" magneto optical cartridges.
    • With disk head alignment no longer an issue, media may be moved from drive to drive without concern for readability.
    • MO media is archive quality, impervious to EMI, yielding both reliable media distribution and a 25+ year shelf life.
  • The AEM-5C is configured using internal software. The same unit can emulate a Diablo, Pertec, RK05, and RK-11.
    • System disk capacity may be increased if required.
    • Using the same AEM model for several drives limits the spares requirement.
